Chinese Companies Going on a Shopping Spree

Did you know Chinese companies have been buying up foreign businesses, including US based ones, at a record rate over the past several months? So far there have been 102 Chinese M&A (merger & acquisition) deals worth about $82 billion vs. 72 deals worth $11 billion over the same time last year. chinese money

One of the most contentious deals so far might be the Chinese-led bid for the Chicago Stock Exchange.

Here are some of the other top M&A deals:

1)  General Electric’s sale of its appliance business to Qingdao-based Haier

2)   Zoomlion’s bid for the heavy-lifting-equipment maker Terex Corp.,

3)   ChemChina’s record-breakingdeal for the Swiss seeds and pesticides group Syngenta, valued at $48 billion.

4)    Dalian Wanda bid $3.5 billion for Hollywood studio Legendary Entertainment.

Why are Chinese companies making so many acquisitions of foreign companies? Because it allows them to quickly expand globally and to offset slow-downs in the Chinese economy.  What are your thoughts on this? Please post your comments below to let us know what you think.

  1. Where is the complete list of these (merger & acquisition) deals ? BOYCOTT these companies…a company is only as rich as it’s customers

  2. Are you awear that they bought Smithfield Hams ship those pigs/hogs over there then send their crummy ones back to us?

    1. The health and welfare of our Great Nation and it’s people is in jeopardy. It is long overdue, we have to take back this country! Start spreading the word, Buy American!!!

      1. Oh, sure. Where do I actually get a list of US manufacturers? If I need equipment for my shop I can’t find an American company that makes it. Any lists that I’ve found online for US manufacturing come with a request for a credit card or a political contribution or a solicitation for my email address. Buy American? I can’t purchase what I can’t find and being in business, I have to have what I need.

  3. thank god there are companies like yours and weather tech who still believe in american workers and american ideals. Hopefully our”leaders in Washington” get heir head out of their a**es and impose tariffs so american companies can actually compete

  4. The thing that so often drives me nuts about these deals is that they were entirely enabled by wealth that was banked during many years of market manipulations designed to put those that do manufacturing in the US and other developed counties out of business. A combination of currency manipulation, steep tariffs, & dumping products at or even below cost has forced many good companies to either go under or end US production while many underhanded politicians turn a blind eye & spout some nonsense about the ‘free market’. I’m all for businesses making a fair buck & the good things markets can do when functioning properly; however, we have long had a rigged market designed to destroy safe, environmentally clean & good paying jobs while lining the campaign coffers of underhanded politicians. I hope that people wake up before it’s too late & start demanding a fair market that’s actually doing things to improve the lives of average Americans & actually responding to market manipulations. If people keep putting blind faith in some dogma about a ‘free market’ that’s actually rigged these sorts of buyouts could eventually put an end to most of publicly traded US owned businesses as we know them.

  6. First, thank you for your service. You are appreciated. However, Mr. Trump may seem a strong leader but he is desiring a white-only, rich-only, and one-religion past, not a future. His buffoonery could only embarrass this nation, proving the US to be the absurd fools the world already fears us to be. My sister has lived in Canada many years, and the way they describe us! They are some of our best friends, yet they have disgust for our choices. Our grandchildren deserve SO much better. Did you know the average age of homeless Americans is just 9 years? Unconscionable! Few disabled people have access to health care to help them work & function, again. We need a leader who cares for them all, not just for the richest tax-cheating corporate thieves! Mr. Sanders has a better future in mind, for ALL Americans. Until we are all equally represented, the rich will party, while small business gets stuck with the bills.

  7. You forgot the Continental Aircraft Engine company (including Titan engine and other aircraft engine vendors in Texas), Mooney aircraft company (Texas) and Glasair aircraft company (Washington state). General aviation is growing in China (unlike America) and they are training pilots here also. Expect more acquisitions in aviation in the future. Will Boeing be next??

  8. THE US $ IS NOW WORTHLESS AND CHINA OWNS A LOT OF US $ SO CHINA IS SPENDING THE U.S.$ AS FAST AS IT CAN BECAUSE WE DON’T THE MONEY TO PAY THEM BACK AND CHINA KNOWS THAT SO CHINA IS JUST SPENDING US $ ON ANY HARD ASSETS ANY ONE IN THE WORLD WILL SELL THAN AND TAKE THE US $ . CHINA HAS BEEN BUYING GOLD . CHINA NOW HAS MORE GOLD THAN ANY ONE IN THE WORLD AND IS THE WOULDS BIGGEST PRODUCER OF GOLD. BUY GOLD SELL THE DOLLER SHORT.
