Remembering Neil Armstrong: ‘The Eagle Has Landed.’

Houston, Tranquility, Base Here, The Eagle has landed” were the words of Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969 when Apollo 11 landed him and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, Jr. on earth`s moon.

And nearly 43 years later from that special day, Neil Armstrong has landed in his final resting place. He passed away this past Saturday at the age of 82. May he forever live on as an inspiration to us all.

The United States mission Armstrong is remembered for will always  be considered one of the most influential moments in American history. Apollo 11 was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida on July 16th and was the 5thmanned mission and 3rd lunar mission of NASA`s Apollo program.

The crew was made up of Neil Armstrong as Commander, Edwin Aldrin as Lunar Module Pilot, and Michael Collins as Command Module Pilot. Armstrong and Aldrin landed in the Sea of Tranquility where they became the first humans to walk on the Moon July 21, 1969.

With the words, “That`s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Armstrong stepped his first steps on the moon alongside Aldrin, sealing a major accomplishment for the United States. As space shuttle astronaut Nicole Stott recently said on Twitter, “His one small step will inspire generations to come.”

As Armstrong said in a 1995 speech, “There are places to go beyond belief.” And with those words, there`s an inspirational message. Perhaps the inspiration Neil Armstrong gave us was the idea that anything is possible.

Anything is possible if we chase our dreams and reach for those places beyond our beliefs. Who knows? A dream come true may feel like walking on the moon.
